Canada expands the Francophone Mobility Program
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the expansion of the Francophone Mobility Program, for a period of two years. This measure, initially reserved for highly skilled French-speaking temporary foreign workers, now opens doors to more French-speaking immigrants by offering them the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience and potentially qualify for permanent residence.
The French language proficiency criteria are also updated for all foreign nationals applying for a work permit under the Francophone Mobility Program. The temporary foreign national must have a moderate language proficiency of French for oral comprehension and oral expression. This is equivalent to a level 5 of the language requirements.
Key changes and updates to the Francophone Mobility Program include:
- Eligibility Expansion:
- The program, initially designed for highly skilled French-speaking temporary foreign workers, now extends its benefits to a broader range of French-speaking immigrants.
- Language Proficiency Criteria:
- French language proficiency criteria have been updated for all foreign nationals applying for a work permit under the program.
- Applicants must have a moderate language proficiency in French for oral comprehension and oral expression, equivalent to a level 5 of the language requirements.
- Documentation Requirements:
- Applicants must provide proof of meeting the language requirements, which may include a French evaluation test, French competencies test, diploma from a French college or university, or documentation confirming studies at a French-language institution.
These enhancements aim to bolster the government’s commitment to population growth, economic prosperity, and the well-being of Francophone minority communities. The changes also address labor shortages by facilitating the integration of French-speaking individuals into the Canadian workforce.
