Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program offers a pathway to permanent residency for skilled foreign workers and international graduates from Canadian institutions who wish to live and work in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

This program helps employers hire qualified candidates for jobs that cannot be filled locally.

 

Candidate Requirements:

Number 1

Work Experience:

  • Within the last 5 years, you must have worked at least 1,560 hours (equivalent to one year of full-time work at 30 hours per week).

International Graduates:

Work experience is not required if you are an international graduate who:

  • Holds a degree, diploma, certificate, or trade/apprenticeship credential from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the four Atlantic provinces.
  • Completed a program of at least 2 years.
  • Graduated within the last 2 years before applying for permanent residency.
  • Studied full-time throughout the program.
  • Lived in one of the provinces for at least 16 months during the last 2 years of study.
  • Had the necessary visa or permit to study, work, or train in Canada.

Number 2

Education Requirements:

  • For TEER 0 or 1 jobs: A Canadian post-secondary (one year or more) credential, or a foreign equivalent with an ECA.
  • For TEER 3 or 4 jobs: A Canadian high school diploma, or a foreign equivalent with an ECA.

Number 3

Language Requirements:

  • TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3: CLB/NCLC 5
  • TEER 4: CLB/NCLC 4

Number 4

Settlement Funds:

  • You must have enough money to support yourself and your family upon arrival in Canada. The required amount depends on family size and includes dependents who are not immigrating with you.
  • If you are already living and working in Canada with a valid work permit, proof of funds is not required.
