{"id":13017,"date":"2020-10-18T06:22:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-18T06:22:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/?p=13017"},"modified":"2024-02-18T10:44:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T10:44:38","slug":"exemptions-for-international-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/exemptions-for-international-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Exemptions for international students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Update on travel restriction exemptions for international students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning <strong>institutions <\/strong>whose <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> readiness plans have been approved by their provincial or territorial <strong>government <\/strong>will soon be able to welcome more international students back to their <strong>schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amended travel restrictions will take effect on October 20, allowing international students to enter <strong>Canada <\/strong>if their designated learning institution (<strong>DLI<\/strong>) has an approved COVID-19 readiness plan in place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With primary responsibility for <strong>education <\/strong>and <strong>health care<\/strong>, provincial and territorial governments assess COVID-19 readiness plans that schools are putting in place. As part of their plans, DLIs are expected to provide specifics to their provincial or territorial government on how they will provide information to international students on <strong>health <\/strong>and <strong>travel <\/strong>requirements before they arrive in Canada, help students with their quarantine plans and provide guidance or assistance in acquiring the necessities of life,<strong> such as food and medication, during their quarantine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Readiness plans also need to establish protocols for the <strong>health of students<\/strong> in the event there are suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The list of DLIs with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan in place will be posted on <strong>IRCC\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/coronavirus-covid19\/students.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">web page for international student<\/a>s affected by COVID-19 restrictions and updated regularly as provinces and territories identify additional schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change to travel restrictions affects all international students, regardless of where they are travelling from or when their study permit was approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travellers should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the amended <strong>travel restrictions<\/strong>, immediate family members may be able to accompany an international student to Canada if their reason for travel is non-optional or non-discretionary, such as getting established in Canada in support of the principal applicant\u2019s study program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> This could include a spouse or common-law partner, a dependant, or in the case of a minor child who will be studying in Canada, a parent or legal guardian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For
