{"id":12572,"date":"2020-04-02T18:45:24","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T18:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/?p=12572"},"modified":"2021-09-08T11:24:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T11:24:48","slug":"international-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/international-students\/","title":{"rendered":"International students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The important points about international students:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a valid study permit or you were approved\nfor a study permit on or before March 18, you will still be able to come to\nCanada.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are travelling to Canada to <a href=\"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/student-immigration-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study <\/a>soon, you need to be aware of public health measures in place to limit the spread of the virus in Canada. You need to know what to expect upon arrival and during your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When you arrive in Canada, your health will be\nassessed when you speak to the border services officer.&nbsp;You must&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cicsmart.com\/email\/mailresponse_ircc339.asp?tid=fafa831e-e09f-4bc2-bcdd-8414b3533cc8&amp;em=f93135c1-56a5-469e-a0d4-8577669cfefa&amp;turl=https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/covid-19-how-to-isolate-at-home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>isolate<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;for 14 days, even if you have no symptoms. This\nis mandatory for all travellers, and there are significant penalties for anyone\nwho does not follow this order. Please see&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cicsmart.com\/email\/mailresponse_ircc339.asp?tid=fafa831e-e09f-4bc2-bcdd-8414b3533cc8&amp;em=f93135c1-56a5-469e-a0d4-8577669cfefa&amp;turl=https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/news\/2020\/03\/new-order-makes-self-isolation-mandatory-for-individuals-entering-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>New\nOrder Makes Self-Isolation Mandatory for Individuals Entering Canada<\/strong><\/a><strong>. &nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before travelling to Canada, students should check\nwith their designated learning institution to make sure their course or study\nprogram is still operating. This is particularly important if you have received\na letter of introduction from IRCC but have not started studying yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before and during your trip,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>avoid spending time in large crowds or crowded areas<\/li><li>avoid contact with sick people, especially if they\nhave a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing<\/li><li>be aware of the local situation and follow local\npublic health advice<\/li><li>be sure to monitor your health, and if you become sick\nbefore or during your trip, avoid contact with others except to see a health\ncare professional<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must have a plan for\nhow you will self-isolate for 14 days when you get to Canada and how you will\nobtain medical care if you become sick. While in self-isolation, you will be\nunable to leave where you are staying for any purpose. If you do not have a\nplan for self-isolation, including how you will buy groceries and access other\nessential services, please delay your travel until you have made one.<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nYou will need to pass a health check\nbefore you\u2019re allowed to board your flight.&nbsp;<strong>Anyone who shows symptoms\nof COVID-19 will not be allowed to travel to Canada.<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Do not travel\nto Canada if you feel sick.&nbsp;<\/strong>If you are sick, delay your travel plans\nuntil you are feeling well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When you get to Canada,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you develop symptoms during your flight to Canada,\ntell a border services officer when you arrive in Canada. This is required\nunder the Quarantine Act (a Canadian law). If you don\u2019t, you could be charged\nwith a crime.<\/li><li>If you do not have symptoms but believe you were\nexposed to someone who was sick with COVID-19, under the Quarantine Act, you\nmust report this to a border services officer when you get to Canada. The\nborder services officer will give you instructions to follow.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you develop a fever, cough or difficulty breathing\nwithin 14 days,<ul><li>continue to isolate yourself from others<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>call the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cicsmart.com\/email\/mailresponse_ircc339.asp?tid=fafa831e-e09f-4bc2-bcdd-8414b3533cc8&amp;em=f93135c1-56a5-469e-a0d4-8577669cfefa&amp;turl=https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/2019-novel-coronavirus-information-sheet.html#pha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public\nhealth authority<\/a>&nbsp;in the\nprovince or territory you are in to tell them about your symptoms and travel\nhistory<ul><li>They will give advice on what you should do.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While you are studying in Canada,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keep monitoring your health for fever, cough or\ndifficulty breathing. If you get sick, avoid contact with others and contact\nyour local&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cicsmart.com\/email\/mailresponse_ircc339.asp?tid=fafa831e-e09f-4bc2-bcdd-8414b3533cc8&amp;em=f93135c1-56a5-469e-a0d4-8577669cfefa&amp;turl=https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection\/symptoms\/provincial-territorial-resources-covid-19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public\nhealth authority<\/a>.<\/li><li>If the self-isolation requirements are still in effect\nfor the beginning of your learning program, you may have courses online. This\nwill not affect your in-class requirements for applying for a post-graduation\nwork permit in the future.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Read\nthe&nbsp;<a
