{"id":11516,"date":"2019-10-08T20:55:33","date_gmt":"2019-10-08T20:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/?p=11516"},"modified":"2021-09-22T10:36:16","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T10:36:16","slug":"new-brunswick-chocolate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/new-brunswick-chocolate\/","title":{"rendered":"New Brunswick Chocolate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>How Mark\nMcGuire and Victoria Myers Are Bringing Craft Chocolate to New Brunswick And\nBeyond<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark McGuire and Victoria Myers are the owners of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mcguirechocolate.com\/about-us-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">McGuire Chocolate<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/swallowimmigration.ca\/en\/north-american-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">company <\/a>the specializes in single-origin chocolate made with only three ingredients. Their chocolate is made with fermented <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nuts.com\/healthy-eating\/cacao-vs-cocoa\" target=\"_blank\">cacao<\/a> grown by small farmers\/profit-sharing co-ops, organic cane sugar, and cocoa butter. The couple and their cat Hank moved from Calgary to St. Andrews this past summer, where they set up their factory and storefront on 174 Water Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company got its start three years ago when McGuire was traveling in\nNicaragua where he first learned how to make chocolate from fresh cacao. When\nhe came back home to Calgary, the passion began to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was time for me to come back to Canada so I bought a suitcase so I\ncould stuff it with cacao and come home,\u201d says McGuire. \u201cI was doing a little bit\nof research. I thought, \u2018I\u2019m going to work for a chocolate maker and learn the\nindustry.\u2019 When I started to research I realized that chocolate making was a\nfairly rare thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They chose St. Andrews for the new McGuire Chocolate HQ for several\nreasons. One being that McGuire spent part of his childhood in nearby Saint\nJohn. The others are more practical, including low real estate prices and\nproximity to the United States border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We import our cacao beans and there are only a few warehouses in North America that are certified to be able to house cacao because it is a very sensitive product and they are both in the United States,\u201d says McGuire. \u201cWhen we imported our cacao in Calgary, we\u2019d have to pay for a customs broker. That would add to your material costs.
